SPAIN
Ponte en su Piel

Sponsored by:
InfoElder - Grupo Intercom

Spain
Internet

Permanent campaign

Ponte En Su Piel is an on-going internet-based social campaign for the rights of senior citizens. Between December 2008 and March 2009, approximately 1000 people, including companies, associations and institutions, participated in the construction of a decalogue that raises awareness of abuse of the elderly population. Many of the participants have pasted the Ponte En Su Piel- symbol on their websites. We welcome new participants to join our cause.

Nowadays companies, associations, independent blogs and different websites keep on join our "community of friends against the elder abuse" (http://ponteensupiel.infoelder.com/red-de-amigos-contra-e l-maltrato-a-los-mayores.html)

It is especially important for us to fight against the abuse of elderly people in Spain where the population of senior citizens is very high.

Kinga, of Elder Protection is going to train as a Firefighter for the Day to Celebrate the 5th World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Kinga, will attend the Fire Station in Newmarket and take part in the training. The event will provide the opportunity to make people in the area aware of Elder Abuse and what the Elder Protection Organisation do to help people who have or are suffering abuse in any shape or form. The idea came about from the founder of Elder Protection, Ed Mullenger who was a former firefighter himself at Newmarket before moving to France and becoming a firefighter there for a number of years until he returned to the UK. Kinga joined Elder Protection as event co-ordinator, Kinga was born in Poland and will also be working to promote awareness of elder abuse in Poland which will include translating much of the Elder Protection Web site in to Polish. This idea came about after Ed, was contacted by a couple of Polish people who wanted help and advice about elderly parents who were being abused in their home country of Poland.

The "Senior Sharing Circles" project will provide the opportunity for women age 55 and older to be Senior Leaders in the Halton community by leading discussion circles with other seniors. These discussion circles are designed to raise awareness of issues such as elder abuse, and will provide a safe space for discussion. The discussion circles will increase awareness, help facilitate peer support and offer community support information to seniors.
